We decided to make a birdhouse as we wanted the opportunity to view the birds around us and also to collect audio’s of their distinct birdsongs. We hoped that these audios could then be used as research in our Hypothesis. To build a birdhouse we firstly needed to draw up plans of what we wanted it to look like. We decided that we wanted a birdhouse that was quite open for easy access for the birds but not too open to allow bigger birds in. We wanted to keep the concept of an original birdhouse design i.e. a four walled hut with a small hole at the front.
Our final design was a small house with three walls of fencing and a front wall which was removable completely. We made two holes in the roof of the house to allow the camera and voice recorder to be placed overhead. We made a roof by weaving sticks round a metal frame and covered the inside with plastic to make it waterproof. We collected a wide range of footage of birds from many different angles within the birdhouse. We have since been able to use this footage to identify what type of birds are around us and what birdsongs belong to what bird
